By issuing the Legislative Decree no. 196 of 30 June 2003 the Italian Parliament approved the new Personal Data Protection Code (PDPC). TITLE V of the PDCP provides a detailed regulation for the processing of personal data in the health care sector. The “e-Heart Failure” projects started in May 2002 and aims to design and develop a computerized collaborative work framework for the shared and continuous care of the heart failure patients among different Health Care Professionals (HCPs). The core of the framework is a Web-based Electronic Medical Record (EMR) for storing and retrieval of the patient clinical data. By using a common Web browser (Microsoft IE), users can access the EMR pages generated by a Web server (Microsoft IIS) that store/retrieves clinical data into/from a centralized database. Different HCPs are involved in the project: clinicians and nurses of the Internal Medicine, Gerontology and Cardiology wards of the central hospital of Trento and General Practitioners (GPs) and nurses of the district of Trento. To allow the integrated patient management, the system has been deployed in the hospital wards and in the GPs surgeries; it uses the intra-hospital LAN and the Internet as network infrastructure. |
